Turning Career Overthinking into Next Steps

When you are weighing a career change, the mind loves to loop. The way out is not more thinking, it is a smaller, repeatable routine.

Overthinking feels productive — after all, you are thinking hard about the problem. But rumination is not problem-solving. It is the same few thoughts running laps, and each lap digs the groove a little deeper.

Name it to tame it

The moment you catch the spiral, label it silently: thinking. This tiny act of noticing creates distance between you and the thought. You are not your thoughts; you are the one observing them.

Give worry a container

Set aside ten minutes a day as dedicated worry time. When an anxious thought appears outside that window, write it down and postpone it. Most worries lose their charge by the time their appointment arrives.

Return to the body

Overthinking lives in the future. Your body lives now. A slow walk, three deep breaths, or simply feeling your feet on the floor interrupts the loop and returns you to the present moment, where peace is actually available.

Ask a better question

Replace What if everything goes wrong? with What is one small thing I can do right now? Action dissolves anxiety far faster than analysis ever will.

In my Confidence and Mindset Transformation program, we practice exactly these shifts until calm becomes your default rather than your exception.
